“Wow, where do I start?
There were several aspects to this three day trip on Searcher. The crew, the friends, the fishing, the ship. The time with my son…. wow!
It all started with a email from my high school buddy, Bob. He said that a few of our buds from high school were going on a 3 day trip on the Searcher out of SD. I looked at my schedule and I had the days off so I sent Bob a text “I’m all in.”
As it turned out there were four of us that graduated from Tustin High in 1976. John, Kenny , Bob and me, Eric. John’s brother Danny and a bunch of their buds were along to celebrate Danny’s 50 birthday.
We were all good friends in HS and had such a great time recalling the wild and crazy times. We told so many stories and laughed so hard. We also reminisced of our friends that are now gone. Funny how life goes. I had not seen these these guys for 30 years and it was like we were still best of friends.
Now, the Captain, Art, and crew and Searcher. I do not believe there is a finer Captain or crew on the water. Art greeted all of us warmly and made me and my son feel very welcome. The crew was very imformal and helpful. I had brought my son, John, and it was his first time on this kind of a fishing trip. The crew was super patient and helpful with him and he got this first yellowtail.
The weather was spectacular. But the fishing conditions were not all that we had wished for. Captain Art searched tirelessly to find the fish and when we found the fish the crew did all they could to hook us up. Even on the last day as the sun was dipping into the horizon, Art made a stop and we hooked up. He was awesome, he never gave up–truly a Captain’s Captain.
Most everybody caught some fish and we certainly all had an excellent adventure.
And now for the best part, my son John and I spent three days together just hanging out fishing, talking, eating and sleeping.
Thanks so much to Captain Art and crew for such a great time on Searcher. Thanks for showing John a great time.
Bob, thanks for inviting me. Bob, Kenny, John, thanks for your friendship and all the memories, old and new.
