Trip #8 (6-day trip) Jul 30-Aug 5, day 2

August 1st, 2018|Categories: Trip Reports|

Hello anglers:

This trip is off to a successful start at the tuna grounds! Capt Shawn is having email issues, so we don’t have photos from the boat just yet. However, they arrived late afternoon Tuesday (7/31) and had some action on 60-80# yellowfin tuna. They stayed in the zone overnight and are back at it again this morning! The weather is great too.

We hope to get photos and more detailed reports when the email issue is fixed. Thank you!

Trip #7 (3 day) July 27-30, day 3

July 30th, 2018|Categories: Trip Reports|

Hello anglers:

We caught some yellowtail and dorado this morning. We are hoping for some tuna action this afternoon. Here is a group of happy anglers with dorado.
More later!

Afternoon report:

We ended the day with a few yellowfin tuna associated with common dolphin. Everyone had plenty of opportunity to land a fish today–yellowtail and dorado on kelp paddies and yellowfin tuna on the troll with the dolphins.

Here is Hopp from Monrovia with Ryan and his kelp paddy yellowtail. What  great trip with nice people, great weather and a fish or two!

Trip 7 (3 day) July 27-30, day 1

July 29th, 2018|Categories: Trip Reports|

Hello anglers,

We had some action today catching yellowfin tuna in the 8-16 pound range, and yellowtail and dorado. Most of the fish came from tuna  associated with common dolphin. And almost all the yellowtail and dorado were caught on kelp paddies. These fish were caught on the troll with an old reliable cedar plug as the “hot” trolling lure. Also using a live sardine and 20-pound line and a 2/0 or #2 hook was the right combination.
First-timer Greg S. caught his yellowtail on a loaner outfits provided by Accurate Fishing Products and Seeker Rods. Thank you for helping new anglers get into the sport of fishing!

There is so much life here: birds, orcas, fish, bait, and whales. We are staying the night and trying again tomorrow in this zone.

Our day for tuna measuring!

July 28th, 2018|Categories: Capt Art's Blog|

On July 27, Searcher anglers returned to the dock with a good catch of yellowfin tuna. What they didn’t realize is that some of their tuna were measured and sent in to the data collection project for the US and state fisheries experts, as organized by SAC (Sportfishing Association of CA).
