May 29 (3-day) Memorial Day

May 29th, 2022|Categories: Capt Art's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good morning anglers,

Wer’e drifting today isntead of driving around all day and night, so it’s a better day!

We couldn’t find the spots up we saw in the afternoon yesterday when the sun went down.  So we relocated to a different zone and caught a couple 50lbers last night.  This morning all we see is big ones and they’re are biting.

The fish are 80-180lbs and we haven’t caught one under 100. They’re all coming on the sinker rigs.  They’re very hard to catch and we’re losing a lot of them at the moment.

If you are coming on an upcoming trip, make sure you bring a rail rod and large 2-speed reel with 80-100lb.

Congrats John!

Good evening anglers,

We plunked on these big fish all afternoon.  They bit all day today, and though it was better in the morning, we were still seeing them and getting bites in the afternoon.

Lots of heartbreaks today, lots of opportunity. A sinker rig on 80lb was the go-to outfit for best success.  Any fish we hooked on 60lb, ended up getting away. These fish are no joke.  We tried a few schools in the dark before heading home, but our anglers are exhausted, so we’re going to call it and end on a high note here.

May 28 (3 day) Memorial Day Weekend

May 28th, 2022|Categories: Capt Art's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good morning anglers,

Last night we had some phenomenal fishing on 20-30lb bluefin tuna on the flat falls.  They bit all night long, and the anglers who stayed up and wanted to catch ’em did a nice job.

We’re trying to find some larger models for today and tonight.

Brothers Josh and Keegan caught the first fish of the night

Good evening anglers,

We had a long day today. We didn’t see much until late afternoon.  But we started seeing some incredible sign of 100-200lb fish late in the day. We managed to capture one and it was a good one, right around 160lbs.  We are seeing this larger fish again after sunset.

Hoping for a big night tonight.

May 26 (2.5 day) Offshore fishing

May 26th, 2022|Categories: Capt Art's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good morning,

We had one opportunity last night on these bluefin on the flat falls. At around midnight they pulled a dissapearing act, so we relocated down the coast and are starting to see large schools of mixed grade (25-150lbs). They aren’t cooperating at the moment, maybe this afternoon.

Good evening,

We have been scratching away at these bluefin all afternoon. We’ve had stops for 1-5 fish on fly lined baits, sinker rigs, and colt snipers. Pretty incredible amount of fish around at the moment.  We’re not seeing it as the sun sets but we’re going to fish a little tonight and until we have to go home.

May 25 (2.5 day) Offshore fishing

May 26th, 2022|Categories: Capt Art's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good morning anglers,

The bluefin dissappeared on us overnight, so we’ve been on the hunt for them all day here this morning.  We’re just starting to see them here now at lunchtime.  We’ve managed to scrape up some quality yellowtail in the meantime.  Hoping for a big afternoon here.

Captain Mike and the boys

Good evening,

We are seeing some very nice spots of 50lb bluefin and 25lb bluefin this afternoon.  They are not cooperating very well at the moment but we’ve managed to scrape some up here.

Hoping for a night bite this evening.

May 22-23 Overnight (2.5 day) Offshore fishing

May 23rd, 2022|Categories: Capt Art's Blog, Trip Reports|

Good evening again anglers,

Here’s a good reason not to break down your flat fall rod on the way home.  We left enough time on the way home to stop on fish if we saw it.

We stopped on some scattered fish at about 30 min before we were going to call it a trip, and they charged the boat. It was a good opportunity for those who wanted to catch a big one tonight.  They were 90-120lbs and they were biting!
