Good evening anglers,

We’ve been traveling for the last two days and we finally got to the Ridge around 1:45.  We did saw sign of dorado above the Ridge and had one wahoo strike mid-morning that fell off.  When we got here we saw a school of tuna right away. We came tight and started catching right away as well.  It’s a beautiful grade of fish. There are some 15-20lbers but most of them are 25-40lbs and they’re biting!  We are still catching fish into the dark.

No sign of yellowtail this morning.  We saw off-color water and off conditions, so we grabbed some lunch and are  breaking gear down and cleaning up.

We made a 120 mile move last night and found some good water in the dark. We started seeing school-grade yellowfin as soon as the sun came up and we’ve been striking them up all morning now.

We’re catching them on dolphin, sonar schools and blind jig strikes.  We are fly lining sardines and getting them on the mega baits and colt snipers. Lots of action this morning, lots of bites, lots of fun and nice weather.

We stayed steady on the school-grade yellowfin today. We were still getting strikes as the sun was setting.  It was all-day action with a lot of stopping and going, and getting lots of bites.

We’re going to move up another 60 miles and fish the morning before wrapping up the trip and heading back to Ensenada.

We got into the beach yesterday and the conditions were pretty off, but we saw fish.  They just weren’t biting.  We hung in there for the night hoping for some different conditions.  We woke up this morning and it looked a little better. We scratched up a few, started working up and the water started getting worse.

So we doubled back and when we got back down to where we wer,e it all looked right and we got on a school of yellowtail that wanted to play.  Patience paid off. We got a pretty good hit this afternoon. Very good fishing on the yo yo surface iron and fly lined baits.  We got our fix of these yellowtail so we’re running up for tuna tomorrow.

It was tough going at the island today. We had wind and swell which meant the weatherside of the island was not an option for us to fish.  We saw a decent sign of 100+lb yellowfin first thing this morning however.  We caught a few quickly this morning and it looked like were going to get rolling, but it went stone cold.  We left the island around 2pm with a handful of these trophies. We’ll be in on the beach fishing yellowtail tomorrow.

This morning we saw excellent sign of 50-75lb yellowfin here at Guadalupe Island. And although we had good enough conditions, the fish just weren’t cooperating.  This could have been a result of our timing, but we did get a little sample so we’re fired up and on the hunt for more.

It was a long afternoon but the evening action made up for it!  We prowled around the island and ended up on the backside.  From about 4pm to sundown we had 100-120lb yellowfin and 30-45lb yellowtail crashing around the boat.  Very promising sign for tomorrow!   Going to try make some bait tonight and excited for what tomorrow will bring.

We arrived at Guadalupe Island today about 3pm and started working our way down. After a few different anchor jobs and attempts, we glassed a spot of 75-100lb yellowfin jumping around so we ran back up and put the anchor down. About 5:30 they immediately started boiling around. We never hooked one however a nice spot of 20-30lb yellowtail got on us and we started hooking them right away. We ended up with a nice little sample. so we have a good starting point for tomorrow.

We focused on yellowtail today with some success. All the fish were in the 30-50 pound class and the majority were caught on a live bait and a dropper loop set up. Set up with 80-100 pound line, a 7/0 J-hook, a 16 ounce sinker and send it to the bottom.
