Tackle Tip Thursday Vol.68 (Chunking)

Tackle Tip Thursday is here! Steve C. from PENN Fishing is back and giving us a great tackle tip for fishing at Guadalupe Island. Today is all about Chunking. Chunking for tuna, that is. You will need a Big hook (swivel is optional to prevent line twist.) 60#-80# 100# test line, Rod rated 60-130# and, a Penn international 16VISX filled with 100# braid with a casting length top shot. (Can be fluorocarbon or monofilament.) Chunking is for the bigger tuna 130-140# tuna. Don’t leave the dock without it.

Steve has a Penn Fathom 40 narrow reel,  with 80# test braid leave enough room for casting length top shot. Hook can range from 1/0-4/0 circle hook.  The rod is 7-8″ rod rated somewhere around 40#-80# or even 100#. Work horse outfit and can be used for any trip.  Don’t leave the dock without it.
