Trip #25 Ultra-limited load 7-day trip (Oct 5-12)

October 9th, 2019|Trip Reports|

Hello anglers:

We had good fishing today. Everyone had multiple chances at landing a nice yellowfin tuna. It took light line and small hooks to get a bite–30 pound line and a #2 hook with a fresh sardine was the method of choice. We had some losses that are associated with this size fish and lighter tackle but we had a good day anyway. Conditions were great, the weather was awesome. Here is Capt Art and Rick D with a nice tuna. And Matt R with a yellowtail.

Hello anglers,

We had steady action this afternoon after the current picked up. There was a very good sign of fish around us almost all day. A live sardine and 30-40 pound test with a # 2 J-hook was the preferred method. Here is Tanner S with a nice yellowfin tuna. We are staying in the same spot and trying again tomorrow. The weather is awesome with calm seas, light winds and it’s sunny!

Hello anglers,

We arrived at Guadalupe island this afternoon. We saw a good sign of fish at our first spot and had action on 30-50 pound yellowfin tuna. We landed a few, fed a few to the sharks and had the usual losses. Just about everyone got to fight a fish or two.

Here is Thom C and Justin with a nice one.

It was a nice afternoon with awesome weather and we are looking forward to having a full day tomorrow.

Trip #24: Ultra-limited load 6-day (Sept 29-Oct 5)

October 3rd, 2019|Trip Reports|

Good evening anglers,

We found an area of fish away from the sharks this afternoon, and were able to scratch up a few handfuls of these excellent 40-50lb yellowfin. Today was our last day in this zone.  Tomorrow we will be traveling up looking for kelps on our way home, hoping for a dorado or two.  Here is Bob with a 40lber he caught this afternoon on 40lb test and a flylined sardine.

Good evening anglers,

We had a tough afternoon. The fish we had around the boat left us, so we went in search of more. We found them late in the day and managed to catch a few more. Hoping for a more productive day tomorrow. We’re in a new spot with fish around and the weather is beautiful.
Here’s Dan C and Capt Armando with one of the afternoon yellowfin tuna.

Good morning anglers,

Tough day again today so far. There are lots of fish around, they just aren’t biting very well.  Bryan U. did manage to catch this one this morning. The sharks are getting the better of us today. Still plenty of time to fish.

Good morning anglers,

We had to look around a bit this morning to find the fish, but we’re on them now. They’re boiling around the boat but were not hooking a whole lot yet. We have managed to land a couple handfuls. With the amount of fish around the boat, if they decide to bite we’re going to be getting busy here.

Here’s Rob and Capt Armando with a sample of today’s catch.

Good evening anglers,

This afternoon we were able to pick away at this beautiful grade of yellowfin tuna.  We had heavy losses today for one reason or another.  But those who stayed at the rail were rewarded greatly.  Here is Xerxes with a 35lber he caught this evening.

Good morning anglers,

We woke up in the same spot we finished last night. We hooked our first fish at around 615 am.  We’ve had to re-position a couple of times, and the conditions are challenging, but we’re still managing to get some bites. Here’s Lester B. with the first fish of the day. He hooked it in the dark on a scad.
