Trip #24 Ultra-limited load 6-day (Sep 29-Oct 5)

October 1st, 2019|Trip Reports|

Good evening anglers,

We had a bit of a rough ride last night, but it’s all good because we got to our location and the fish started biting right away. We have some adverse conditions at the moment making the fishing difficult. Hooking the fish was not a problem. Landing them was another story.  We did manage a nice little sample of what this place has to offer.

Here is Ben with a beautiful 50lb yellowfin he caught as the sun went down.  We’re going to hit it hard again in the morning

Good evening anglers,

We ended our trip on some slug yellowtail this afternoon and evening.  We only caught a handfull, but we had a little opportunity and lost the majority of the fish we hooked.  These yellowtail are big and mean, and the bottom is shallow and sharp, so most of our losses were due to rocks. Come prepared with 80-100lb to fish for these things, they are no joke! Here is Mark and I reaping the rewards of his rail time and proper tackle selection. This one was over 45lbs.

Good morning anglers,

This morning we were on the fish again.  The 40-70lb yellowfin were biting.  This is our last morning fishing this area, we were stoked to have the fish biting again. We have tons of tuna now! We are going to relocate and look for some yellowtail.

Here’s Kevin with the first fish of the morning.

Trip #23 Seeker Rods 7-day (Sept 22-29)

September 26th, 2019|Trip Reports|

Good morning anglers,

We are on the fish again today.  We have hooked 50-80lb yellowfin.  At about 7:45 this morning we had a massive school of yellowfin swim through us.  They were bitting early this morning.  We’ve had lots of casualties due to the larger grade of fish here and tax mans collecting his share as well. None of this has slowed the catching. The bite has backed off but were still hooking the big ones here.  Mostly sporadic bites  resulting in flurry style fishing making it for an exciting morning.(Flurry is where the bit comes out of no where, and a lot at the same time.)  Here is Ryan and Justin with Randy’s 50+lber. It is Tackle Tip Thursday so here is a hot off the water tackle tip for you. Randy caught this yellowfin on 40lb and a fly lined sardine.  We have caught a couple yellowtail here while we were fishing for tuna.

Gotta get back out there we just hooked a few tuna.  The fish are biting out here we have a few spots left the rest of the year.  Pretty phenomenal fishing out here right now.

Good evening anglers,

We were able to scratch away at this beautiful grade of yellowfin tuna for most of our afternoon. We’re all very happy with our catch for the day.  We hope to be on them again in the morning. Here is Leo T and Captain Armando with a 40lb class yellowfin caught on a fly-lined sardine on 40lb line.

Good morning anglers,

We didn’t quite have a repeat of yesterday morning–the fish didn’t show up early this morning. So we moved down the road a little and found some quality 40-70lb yellowfin. We have been picking away at them all morning. All smiles and high fives here!

Hers Kenny S. with a 70lb kite fish. It’s the only kite fish we’ve hooked all day. Most of our fish the past few days have been on fly-lined sardines with the exception of a handful.

Good morning anglers, We arrived at Guadalupe Island yesterday afternoon and did not have much to report. We found a nice area of fish but only managed one for our afternoon. This morning is a whole different story. At first light we had 25-70lb yellowfin boiling around the boat and they bit right away. They have backed off a little but we’re staying busy picking away at them. Here is Mark R. and crewman Justin with a 50lber he caught on a 4″ sardine on 40lb test.

Thank you to Seeker Rods for their sponsorship!
Hopefully they keep biting, we will check back later.

Good evening anglers,

Wow what a day! These beautiful 25-60lb yellowfin bit for us all day. We boated our last one at about 630pm and our first one at about 630am. They got picky at times but we kept at it, and made a very nice catch on them today.  Here’s Richie L. and Captain Armando with a 45lber.  Richie was getting bit all day long. We’ll be back at it again at first light.

Trip #22 Herzog 2-day (Sept 20-22)

September 23rd, 2019|Trip Reports|

Good Evening

We departed today on a 2 day charter.  We heard the local fishing had been good this morning so we were excited to get out there.  We immediately started seeing fish once we got in the zone.  We had a nice couple hour drift on 15-25lb yellowfin this afternoon. We capped off  the trip with a small sample of 40lb class bluefin right at dark.

Here is Ryan and Alfredo with their bluefin they caught on the sinker rig.

From the Land Crew

Good evening anglers,

We managed to scratch up a handful more yellowfin this afternoon. The majority of the fish we found later in the day today were bluefin and we did manage a few bites, but lost them due to the light tackle fishing. Here is what a shot of what some of these large schools of bluefin look like on the fathometer.
