Trip 27 Sep 24-Oct 1 (7-day) Sep 26 Midday Report

Hello all,

Made our first stop of the trip at 10 am, and we are not seeing the same sign of tuna that has been seen the past few days. There are a few wahoo around with a few fish hooked and lost, but we’ve landed 5! Long time Searcher customer Jim Hartwick from Ojai landed this nice wahoo on a bomb. Also pictured is longtime customer Kevin Justen at the hand wells.

More later,

Hello all,

A great day on the ocean today with light winds and very little sea condition. Everyone spent time rigging this morning and we hope we are ready for tomorrow when we arrive at our first stop. It looks like we will get there mid- morning, so we will have plenty of fishing time.

Capt Ryan has a birthday this trip and we decided to celebrate it tonight since we are travelling and the weather is good. Hopefully we will be too busy fishing to celebrate on his birthday (Thursday). Ryan’s mom Vicki is an awesome baker and Ryan’s favorite dessert is her famous mud pie. Vicki sent 3 giant mud pies along for this trip and everyone really enjoyed it. Here’s Ryan wishing for fish.

Hello all,

We are travelling today. We will be arriving at our first stop before lunch tomorrow. After breakfast we gathered in the galley to discuss terminal tackle for wahoo, tuna, and yellowtail. Tangles are a big topic because we try to limit them. Fishing with live bait and drag settings are key topics as well. The most important topic is to use the crew as a resource for info. They will be helping people all day with the rigging process.

Capt Art is pictured with a rod and reel combo and a wahoo bomb.

Trip 25 Sep 13-19 Penn Reels Open Sep 18 Report

Hello all,

A travel day today. We had choppy weather above the north end of Cedros island for a few hours last night. Just before daylight the wind and swell subsided and we had a great day on the ocean with light winds and sunny skies. The group broke down their tackle and the crew gave the boat a good scrub! Charley and Dan fed us well with cheeseburgers for lunch and then fresh yellowfin tuna for dinner. Everyone loved the fish with a lime, cilantro butter sauce!!!!

Then the fun began with the final raffle of the trip. Lots of goodies from Steve Carson. A tackle box full of tackle and a Penn rod were the highlights. When we get to the dock we will give away some Penn reels for biggest Yellowtail, wahoo, bottom fish and biggest fish overall. The amount of swag on this trip is great. Thanks to Steve again.

Home tomorrow.

Trip 25 Sep 13-19 Penn Reels Open Sep 17 PM Report

Hello all,

Windy conditions again today. We stopped just after lunch to try for yellowtail, with the wind the water temperature had dropped significantly so the yellowtail weren’t around. We traveled to the next spot up the coast and there was a sign of good size yellowtail there. We had a few fish on various methods: dropper loop, yo-yo lure, surface lure and a live sardine with a 2 ounce sliding sinker.  Here’s Mike and Randy with a nice size yellowtail.

Headed home this evening, jackpot report on Tuesday. It’s been another great Penn Trip this year!
