Trip 13 Aug 3-8 (5-day) Braid Trip Aug 5 AM report

August 5th, 2017|Trip Reports|

Hello all,

We arrived at the yellowtail zone around 9 am this morning. Everyone has managed to land at least one yellowtail and we have had some good action where there was plenty of opportunity. The size of the fish are 15 to 30 pounds – very nice yellowtail. Live sardine was the preferred method, with a few fish caught on the surface iron.

Capt Art hooked and handed a nice yellowtail to Guy Gilchrist on one of our nice Hook and Hand outfits provided by Accurate and Seeker.

Back to work- more later,

August 5th, 2017|Trip Reports|

Well, we all enjoyed a great day of fishing yesterday! The perfect way to cap off the day was  our fantastic dinner: Herb Marinated Grilled Tuna served over roasted tomato rice pilaf, topped with Chef Charley’s Famous Cilantro Lime Butter Sauce, with a medley of roasted squash and peppers on the side. We’re travelling south for yellowtail.

Hello all,

A great day of fishing for yellowfin tuna! We saw mixed sizes with some 12- pound fish up to 20-pound fish. All methods today: trolling, live bait and artificial lures worked. Everyone had a great time at the rail today. Long time Searcher customer Jose Valle from El Monte CA landed this 20 pound tuna on a live sardine, a 2/0 Owner J-Hook with 30-pound line.

Headed south tonight to look for some yellowtail.

Trip 13 Aug 3-8 (5-day) Aug 4 mid-day report

August 4th, 2017|Trip Reports|

Hello anglers: We started out with some good yellowfin tuna action this morning! We’ve caught multiple fish on the troll, but with bait fish as well. Cedar plugs and rapalas are the hot trolling lures. For live bait set-ups, we’re having success with sardines on 25 pound line and a standard 2/0 J-hook. A few fish have bit lures–Colt Sniper flat falls, primarily. Learn all about flat falls, with tips from the experts here: Ask A Captain about Flat Fall lures.
Dennis Braid landed this tuna with help from crewmember Ben Hart.

Trip 12 Jul 31-Aug 3 (3-day) Aug 2 mid-day report

August 2nd, 2017|Trip Reports|

Howdy anglers,

Another SUPER day here on the Searcher.  We were delighted to get a school of bluefin tuna to bite for us this morning: it was really good fishing for tuna on a fly-lined sardine on 25lb test, and we managed to catch a few yellows along the way.  Here is one of the tunas we caught today caught by Sangkee Woo with Ben at the gaff. We’re headed home today and it looks like the ocean will continue to be very enjoyable and mellow, so we will have a nice cruise to be back at the dock tomorrow.

See you in the morning,

Capt Aaron and the Searcher crew

Howdy anglers,

Well, the day was just as good as it can get: steady fishing and good weather.

25lb with a flylined sardine was the ticket today and the people that were using artifical lures were doing good as well –  I can’t say one lure worked better than others.  We’re headed to try for some yellowtail before we call it a trip.  Here’s another sample of two that look the same: the Murphy brothers holding a pair of tuna.

More later,

Howdy anglers,

What a great day so far! We have been going in and out of stops all day long catching yellowfin tuna.  Here is a sample of what we caught with Carlos Parada and Kenny on the gaff.  The weather is getting better and better as the day goes on – wish us luck for the afternoon!

Trip 11 Jul 28-31 High Desert Comm. Charter Jul 30 PM Report

July 30th, 2017|Trip Reports|

Hello all,

We had lots of fishing time today with plenty of kelp paddies to stop on and try a live bait. Some of the kelps had fish and some kelps didn’t.  Everyone had lots of fun today and just about everyone caught what they needed. We had one kelp that had a small school of yellowfin tuna. We landed a few and the “High Desert Tuna Bombers” connected. Here’s a group photo of the guys with the tuna that were landed and a yellowtail too!

Another successful trip for this great group of guys from Arizona!!!!
