Trip 13 (4 day) Aug 8 Report

mid-day report transmitted at 9:50 am Aug 8, 2016

Howdy anglers,

Slow speed going up, and the first destination had poor conditions so we’re working up –  so we should be to our next spot a little after lunch.  This is what we’re looking for soon -some bent rods like this one with Chase Bierig!

day’s end report, transmitted at 8:00 pm Aug 8, 2016

We only got to fish for a couple hours this afternoon. but it was amazing yellowtail fishing! It was a great way to end a great trip – the weather is good, and we’re headed home.

Here is a happy group all holding some fish.  The best method was on a flyline sardine with a 1 to 2 oz. slider and a nose-hooked sardine on 30-40 lb mono. Some were caught on the surface iron and only a couple on the yoyo iron.

We are heading home happy 🙂 It’s been a great time with Dennis Braid of Braid Products!

Trip 13 (4 day) Aug 7 Report

August 8th, 2016|Trip Reports|

Howdy anglers,

Great day fishing for us here – had some action most all day long! Had good yellowtail fishing with a sample of yellowfin tuna mixed in as well. Here is another nice yellow caught by Stever O’Rourke on an Owner 1/0 ringed fly liner J hook.

Moving up the coast to try for a little more fishing time.

More tomorrow,

Capt Aaron and Team Searcher

Trip 13 (4 day) Aug 7 Mid-day Report

August 7th, 2016|Trip Reports|

Howdy anglers,

Good morning for us fishing for yellowtail, and even a few yellowfin tuna have been caught as well!  Here is our trip sponsor, Dennis Braid of Braid Products, holding a sample of our catch today.  Most of the fish have been caught on a 2 oz. egg sinker and a 2/0 hook with a sardine. Other methods have been doing ok – like a yoyo jig, and the surface iron has been effective as well.

We are going to keep at it – more later,

Capt Aaron and Team Searcher

Trip 13 (4 day) Aug 6 Mid-day Report

transmitted at 12:30 pm Aug 6, 2016

Howdy anglers,

Tough conditions to report – we do have some wind today. We’re seeing kelp of all shapes and sizes, but they have no fish on them – though we did manage to get a nice 20lb dorado today caught by Stever O’Rourke. We’re headed south in hopes of finding a kelp with some fish on it.  Wish us luck!  More soon.

Trip 12 (3 day) Aug 4 Report

August 4th, 2016|Trip Reports|

Howdy anglers,

Well, I’m glad to say that our afternoon was a lot more action-packed than this morning! 🙂 We found a couple of kelp that had some hungry yellowtail. We also caught a few nice dorado today, like this dandy caught by Greg Thacher.

Capped off our day with a great dinner: braised short ribs with mashed potatoes and roasted brussels sprouts, followed by a delicious dessert, boat-made fruit cobbler. We’re gonna spend tomorrow here – hoping to repeat what we did this afternoon!

We were keeping it simple today – 40 lb straight to a 3/0 J hook with a sardine.

More later,

Capt Aaron and Team Searcher

Trip 12 (3 day) Aug 3 Mid-day Report

August 3rd, 2016|Trip Reports|

Howdy anglers,

Checking in with good news – although we literally had nothing to report til lunch today, we found our first kelp about 7 minutes before lunch was to be served!  We were able to catch some nice fish off the kelp and we’re definitely happy with that. Here is a sample of some nice yellowtail caught by the group.  Steve Sawtell, pictured in orange, was able to land his very first yellowtail – nice work!

The weather has been odd today, but it’s nothing to stop us from continuing.  More later!
