April 9 (Full day) Coronado Island

Conditions at the island had changed so we had a slow morning for yellowtail on the yoyo set-ups. We connected on a few fish in the afternoon on the surface irons.

A few nice yellows at the island, but we were challenged with finding them today.

Trip #31: Oct 31-Nov 8 (8-day) Ultra-limited Load

Good evening anglers,

We scratched most of the day on 10-18lb yellowtail with a large variety of other species mixed in. Late in the day we got a good shot at these yellowtail right before the sun went down. We had some excellent action here!

Yoyo, surface iron and fly-lined sardine was the way to go to get a bite. We have all smiles and high fives here. We’re going to start rolling up after dinner.

Trip #31: Oct 31-Nov 8 (8-day) Ultra-limited Load

Good morning anglers,

We picked off a few yellows here in the dark on the dropper loop. We have been scratching ever since. No big hits but we’re accumulating fish as we go. Most of the fish are coming on the yoyo and surface iron. There’s lots of action here with big bass, a couple seabass and a big halibut . Brochure weather down here. We’ll check in later.

Trip #31: Oct 31-Nov 8 (8-day) Ultra-limited Load

Good morning anglers,

We’ve had a very good morning here on the Ridge. Great action on the wahoo and mixed grade yellowfin tuna from 10-40lbs. Good action all morning drifting them up. Not many troll fish, mostly caught on the bait and bombs and surface irons. Excellent sign down here in the morning. The signal has kind of diminished this afternoon so we’re taking off and heading for the beach for tomorrow.

Good evening anglers,

We had a pretty great day here on the ridge. Great action on the wahoo, Good tuna fishing. Some big dorado mixed in. Beautiful weather. Today’s action made the 500 miles of travel to get down here worth it. We’re traveling up this afternoon to be in position to fish yellowtail on the beach tomorrow. Epic wahoo bite this afternoon!

Trip #31: Oct 31-Nov 8 (8-day) Ultra-limited Load

Good morning anglers,

We’ve been scratching at the wahoo all morning here.  Very tough fishing here this morning but were managing to catch a few.  They are all nice ones 30-50lbs.  Very few troll fish–most of the wahoo have come from wahoo bombs and live bait.  We also had a little lunch time action on 12-25lb yellowfin.  There is some sign of that here.  We’re hoping for an afternoon hit here.

Here is Garrick with a quality one that ate the green bomb.

Good evening anglers
We were able to keep scratching away at the wahoo and sacked up a couple more yellowfin here this afternoon. It’s still tough to get a bite. Long drifts and picking away at them was the method here. There was quite a bit of yacht traffic this afternoon which I think that may have hampered our efforts. We’re going to try again in the morning before we start heading up.

Trip #31: Oct 31-Nov 8 (8-day) Ultra-limited Load

Good evening anglers,

We didn’t get a big hit like we were hoping for when we got here this afternoon. However we did get a small sample of wahoo and some yellowfin tuna. We’re hoping for a night bite later. We’ll check in in the morning.

Trip #29: Oct 18-25 (7 day) Ultra-limited Load

Good morning anglers,

We’ve had some pretty epic fishing here today on mixed grade yellowtail, big bass, big dorado, a big halibut and all sorts of other stuff to go along with it. Fly-ined baits, yoyo jigs and surface irons have been the “go to” for the game fish today.

Good evening anglers,

We had an interruption in email for a day, but we’ve been busy! It was pretty epic fishing this all day. Good fishing on mixed grade yellowtail in the 10-20lb range. Lots of big bass came on board, and a handful of halibut.

The best way to catch the yellowtail today seemed to be using the lures. The surface iron and the yoyo jigs were the best way to get a bite. Brochure weather again here today and good fishing.

Trip #29: Oct 18-25 (7 day) Ultra-limited Load

Good evening anglers,

We looked at a lot of unproductive kelps this morning in beautiful 74.5 degree water. We decided to slide into the beach this afternoon to try for some yellowtail. We found some, but they just did not want to bite. We managed a handful of 18-22lb yellowtail and this 40lb sea bass! We will be on the beach again tomorrow looking for yellowtail.
