Oct 25 (8-Day Trip) Ultra-limited load to Guadalupe Island

Good morning anglers,

This morning we saw excellent sign of 50-75lb yellowfin here at Guadalupe Island. And although we had good enough conditions, the fish just weren’t cooperating.  This could have been a result of our timing, but we did get a little sample so we’re fired up and on the hunt for more.

Tony’s looking pretty happy with his catch!

Good evening anglers,

It was a long afternoon but the evening action made up for it!  We prowled around the island and ended up on the backside.  From about 4pm to sundown we had 100-120lb yellowfin and 30-45lb yellowtail crashing around the boat.  Very promising sign for tomorrow!   Going to try make some bait tonight and excited for what tomorrow will bring.

Oct 24 (8-Day Trip) Ultra-limited load to Guadalupe Island

Good evening anglers,

We arrived at Guadalupe Island today about 3pm and started working our way down. After a few different anchor jobs and attempts, we glassed a spot of 75-100lb yellowfin jumping around so we ran back up and put the anchor down. About 5:30 they immediately started boiling around. We never hooked one however a nice spot of 20-30lb yellowtail got on us and we started hooking them right away. We ended up with a nice little sample. so we have a good starting point for tomorrow.

Oct 21 (7-Day Trip) Ultra-limited load to Guadalupe Island

Hello all,
We are trying again for good-grade yellowfin tuna and yellowtail this morning, and we have had some success so far!  We see signs of tuna around the boat but it is tough to get a bite. We are hopeful this afternoon will be easier like the other day.

Here is Scott with a nice yellowfin tuna landed on 50 pound line and floro carbon.

Hello anglers,

We had high hopes for the afternoon but we never had any current to make the fish bite. The fish we landed are nice ones though. We are headed to Ensenada to clear customs and will be home on Saturday.

Oct 20 (7-Day Trip) Ultra-limited load to Guadalupe Island

Hello anglers,

We focused on yellowtail today with some success. All the fish were in the 30-50 pound class and the majority were caught on a live bait and a dropper loop set up. Set up with 80-100 pound line, a 7/0 J-hook, a 16 ounce sinker and send it to the bottom.

Allen with a nice one!

Oct 19 (7-Day Trip) Ultra-limited load to Guadalupe Island

Hello anglers,

We’re having a different day today with different conditions and it’s more difficult to get a bite. So we have to modify our plan. We see plenty of fish today, but they are not in the biting mode . We have high hopes for this afternoon.

More later.

Jerry from Kentucky and his 107 pound tuna, currently is a contender for jackpot

Hello anglers,

We had a successful afternoon today with good action on 80-110 pound yellowfin and a few 45-50 pound yellowtail. The same method was successful today: 60 pound line and fluorocarbon, and a 1/0 circle hook with a live sardine. We are headed to the other side of the island tomorrow to try for some of those big yellows.

Mark’s 49# yellow was landed on 80 pound line, a dropper loop rig and a nose hooked mackerel.

Oct 18 (7-Day Trip) Ultra-limited load to Guadalupe Island

Hello all,

We  had some action on 60-70 pound yellowfin tuna this morning with opportunities for everyone. The preferred method was to flyline a sardine with 60 pound test and fluorocarbon to match, along with a small 1/0 circle hook.

The weather is great with partly cloudy skies and light winds. Very pleasant conditions!

Hello anglers,

We had a great day with action on nice-grade yellowfin tuna and some 30-40 pound fish too. Everyone caught a quality fish today. No change in the method–live sardine was the key.

We have high hopes for tomorrow.

Oct 17 (7-Day Trip) Ultra-limited load to Guadalupe Island

Hello angler,

We arrived this afternoon at the island and saw a sign of fish late in the day. We managed to land a few tuna and yellowtail for a sample of what is to come this week! Nice size yellowtail as seen here with John W and one of the two yellowtail he landed this afternoon.

We have high hopes for tomorrow.

Oct 14 (7-Day Trip) Ultra-limited load to Guadalupe Island

Good morning anglers,

We got a little reprieve in the weather today so we took the opportunity to go around the back side of the island. We had an opportunity on the 40-50lb yellowtail. They were splashing around the boat and we managed to boat a few. The current backed off but were seeing some sign of these 100lb yellowfin right now. Hoping for a big afternoon.

Captain Mike and the boys

Good evening anglers,

We went looking down the island today and got on a school of tuna associated with some dolphin and had a little window. They seemed a bit off and were hard to hook, but we managed to land a few 50-90lbers.  They stayed with the boat for a while but we stopped hooking them, so we kept going down the island and had a little sundowner on 20-30lb yellows and 90lb tunas.  All and all a nice day, and a good note to end on.

Oct 13 (7-Day Trip) Ultra-limited load to Guadalupe Island

Good morning anglers,

Its a different day here as it always is at this island.  We saw some sign of yellowtail and tuna this morning but not the quantity we saw yesterday.  We started hooking tuna right away, but never hooked a yellowtail this morning. We gave it until lunch time and now we’re going to go look around this afternoon.

A birthday tuna for Mark S!

Good afternoon anglers,

We finally got on some biting fish this evening and had a little opportunity right when the sun went down.  The 30lb yellowtail and 90lb tuna were biting a bit for the last hour of daylight right until the sun went down.  We put the mackeral we made last night to good use.  We’re going to try make some more tonight and try again tomorrow.
